The Beginning of Us

Incorporated in 1964, ERMCO began transformer production in January 1972 with 30 employees producing 30 units weekly in a 32,000 square foot facility. It was the first plant in the nation built solely by rural electrics to make single-phase padmount transformers new to the market.

ERMCO was also one of the first transformer manufacturers to substitute aluminum foil for copper wire in transformer coils due to the expense of copper and government regulations.

Expansion & Diversification

The eighties & nineties were decades of abundant expansion, diversification, and growth for the company. ERMCO expanded its business into three-phase padmount transformers and purchased a building/property adjacent to the single-phase facility to produce the three-phase transformers.

The company diversified its product line with the purchase of General Electric Transformer Components Company in Greeneville, TN. The company was renamed ERMCO Components, Inc. (ECI).
