(Dyersburg, Tenn.) – Electric Research and Manufacturing Cooperative, Inc. (ERMCO) was honored last week with the Tennessee Flagship Industry Partner Award, a state-level recognition presented by the Tennessee Department of Education. The official presentation occurred October 22 during the Tennessee Northwest Region FutureReadyTN Roadshow at the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce in Dyersburg.<>Recipients of the award are recognized for their contributions and partnerships with school districts across the state of Tennessee. ERMCO was nominated for the honor by Dyersburg City Schools.
Accepting the award on ERMCO’s behalf were Debbie Hurt, ERMCO Chief of Staff, and Brad Whittle, ERMCO Talent Acquisition Manager.
“We believe empowering the next generation of our workforce plays a crucial role in the success of local and statewide infrastructure,” Hurt said. “Our partnerships with school systems in northwest Tennessee, including Dyersburg City Schools, are impacting the lives of students in our area. We are proud to receive this award and will continue to help provide a bright and promising future that each student deserves.”
“We are honored to receive the Tennessee Flagship Industry Partner Award,” Whittle said. “This recognition is a testament to ERMCO’s commitment to workforce development within our local school systems. We’re proud to help build a brighter future for Tennessee.”
Tennessee Flagship Industry Partners are employers whose partnerships with their local school systems have significantly improved student outcomes. The selection process for the honor is based on the cumulative, quantitative impact each employer has on elementary, middle, and high school students through a variety of employment readiness activities, including pre-apprenticeships, registered apprenticeships, and seamless postsecondary and workforce transitions.
Since 2022, ERMCO has donated over $520,000 to various Northwest Tennessee Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)/Career Technical Education (CTE) school programs, including Dyersburg City Schools. The financial donations have allowed educational leaders to expand programming, which gives students exposure to high-demand fields such as manufacturing, engineering, and information technology. These funds have also helped purchase items and curriculum in classrooms and labs.
ERMCO teammates regularly donate their time to collaborate with school administrators and educators, helping prepare students for a career in manufacturing. ERMCO teammates mentor students in their respective STEM labs, offering advice and explaining the vast career opportunities in the world of manufacturing. Students located in Northwest Tennessee also have opportunities to witness manufacturing operations up close and personal through personalized manufacturing tours at ERMCO’s Dyersburg campus.
ERMCO began construction on its first manufacturing facility in 1964 and produced the first transformer in Dyersburg in 1972. Additionally, ERMCO is the largest employer in Dyer County.
